So, instead of a beach in the centre of Cairns, you can now swim in a huge man-made lagoon! The lagoon is 4800 square metres in size, and is located on the foreshore. It has a sandy beach which is a great for the kids to build sand castles whilst you keep watch from the shady grass area nearby.

This is a pretty major development for Cairns. I guess they figured they needed to create something amazing like this to stop all of the tourists heading straight to the northern beaches. It is impressive actually – the lagoon is pretty big, and the area around it is landscaped nicely, with picnic areas and BBQ’s the public can use. There are trained life guards on patrol throughout the year and there is a first aid room as well.

The lagoon is certainly a bonus for those with young kids as it is a very safe alternative to the surf. And also good for those of us scared of sharks ; )

If your hostel doesn’t have a swimming pool; if the swimming pool of your accommodation is to small; if the beaches are to far away; or if you just want to have fun.

Go and visit the Lagoon Complex at the Esplanade in Cairns, next to the pier. A huge artificial lagoon close to Trinity Bay, with crystal clear water and capable for 1000 swimmers. The site has barbecue places, a playground for children, a café and changing rooms. And last but no least: it is free of charge.

Cairns doesn’t have a nice natural beach, but it has this beautiful artifical lagoon. It measures 4800 square metres, it’s filled with filtered saltwater and even has a sandy area.
There are all amenities, picnic tables and bbq facilities.
Another great thing: there’s no admission fee!!!!

It may surprise some of you to hear that Cairns doesn’t have a beach, it did me.
So they built a ‘lagoon’ with a shallow end for kids and a deeper part for adults to swim, there’s a fountain you can play about in.
There’s outdoor showers, lockers, lifeguards, toilet block and a little snack bar, a grassed area to lie an and if you can catch a spot sand too.
There’s also BBQ’s and picknick benches dotted around too.

carins has one of the most beautiful man made lagoons. It has no beaches so, the man made lagoon almost acts like a big beach as well as a pool. Take your trunks and have a good swim. There are facilities for showers as well as lockers here.

Up here the sea is full of dangers.
People in Cairns have done what also other places should do: the Lagoon!
A safe place to swim and spend a day in the center of the city.
Thank you Cairns! :)
